This month seems to have gone by in the blink of an eye! We are in November, it’s mad, and that means were in the 3rd month of my project. So what’s happened since my last post... well I had some very interesting zoom calls with two fantastic authors, Neil Lancaster and Christopher Brookmyre. This was a highlight for me, it’s amazing talking to favourite authors and sharing ideas and plans. I have a lot more questions for them and I am planning to share an interview with them or possibly even a Facebook live if I dare... we will see! I’m very excited about involving them more later on in my project, so follow along on social media or subscribe on my website to avoid missing out. I have been doing some workshops with a local Mental Health Charity and the participants have had some brilliant ideas that we may be able to see later, all inspired by books of course.
If you have been following me on Facebook or Instagram, you would have seen my Mr Whisper lino print, I have had it hanging up for a while drying and kind of like it as a single layer print, so have left it for now I had originally planned 2 layers for it but I just can’t decide. So I have set up 2 more prints and am hoping to get the 1st layer printed this weekend, these are the Dean Bridge inspired by The Lewis Man written by Peter May, and an oil rig scene inspired by One Fine Day In The Middle Of The Night written by Christopher Brookmyre. I need to get a move on because I have lots more planned and time is absolutely flying by. Its been fun so far to actually have the time to sit and be creative and try things out and I am very grateful to Creative Scotland Lottery Fund for believing in my project and funding it. I love my little studio at home and seriously think if I was locked in here for a month or 2 id be happy to crack on and live like a hermit in my little den creating. I could have a few food deliveries and be happy as Larry!
After listening to JD Kirk’s latest book on audible i have also re listened to a few of the older DCI Logan books, for the 3rd time... and have even came across things id obviously missed before. If you haven't yet seen my print of Geoff Palmer have a look on Instagram! I liked the ‘Halloween Special’ vibe, after reading a few reviews from others it does have mixed reactions from people but i thought it was great. Looking forward to the next. Have you read it? let me know what you thought in the comments.
The last thing ill share with you is my Berserker... So I have starting making a roughly 3ft sized paper Mache chess piece! I'm very happy with the size and shape and I also went to a book sale the other day and found a tonne of Peter May books, which I will use some of the pages to cover the sculpture when I have got all the details right. I came across these fascinating chess pieces after reading The Chessmen, I started investigating them and think they are so cool, I really must get to the museum to see them. It is a very good read and would recommend to anyone, of course you should read the whole trilogy though.
So that’s what's happening with me, thanks to all the people commenting and following my project, it’s just going to get better and better as we move through. If you know any fans of JD Kirk, Peter May, Christopher Brookmyre, Neil Lancaster or Ian Rankin please share this with them or tag them in my posts so they can follow along too.
